  • Bike Warrior

It doesn't snow too much in Tulsa. There aren't really any beaches either. One would suppose that outdoor fun is not to be had. Wrong! Whoever this "one" is that didn't think Tulsa is full of outdoor fun didn't try Riverparks. I personally think that is the best thing going for Tulsa. The Arkansas River is traced by a path that runners and walkers, or even bikers and rollerbladers alike can have a blast on. For me, biking is my new hobby that also doubles as exercise. What's even better yet is the fact that there is a mountain biking area on this path called Turkey Moutain. Now, mind you that live next to real mountains, this is more of a glorified hill than anything, but the size of the mountain says nothing about the amount of fun there is to be had.
My routine now consists of me biking to Turkey Mountain (>3 miles), riding the yellow trail on the mountain (>5 miles), and then either riding back home or taking a different route if I have the time (anywhere between 3 and perhaps well over 20 miles). This is good since my old routines forced me to work on my road biking/ endurance, or mountain trail riding/technical skills. This is also due to the fact that I have not made an effort to fix the van, which removed all temptation to drive my bike to Turkey Mountain. All in all, mountain biking is one of the most fun things I have ever done.
Maybe one day I will make a short compilation video of on trail and off trail riding and show everyone how wonderful it is! Wouldn't you like that? Hopefully I will be able to make such a video without having an accident in the middle of filming it. For instance, I took a downhill trail today aptly named the "Lip Buster" due to its outrageous downhill angle and hidden jump areas. I would love to take a picture of it, but I think I can put it into perspective anyway. Imagine this, there is a road to the left of the trail that has the same angle and slope that I have ridden down before when I didn't have the confidence to take the Lip Buster trail. On the road, I've reached speeds of +45 miles per hour. I am certain because I have speedometer on my bike. So you can imagine the actual trail right next to the road being a bit exhilarating, though dangerous as heck.
My hope is to take my skill that I found in Tulsa and take it with me no matter where I go. I'm not staying in Tulsa too much longer, so it's time to get my show (and my bike) on the road. So yeah, Tulsa is lame. They don't have sandy beaches and they don't have Niagara Falls. There isn't a decent theme park near by and there are no really great historical areas like the ones I am familiar with back on the East Coast. But there are new tricks that this old dog learned in a place as dull as Tulsa. I suppose that what I am trying to say ultimately is that you should find that special thing in your area that makes it special. Everywhere has one, even silly old Tulsa.

    ::EDIT::
    1. When I say "Old Dog" in reference to myself, I don't want you to think that I think of myself as old. I'm just seasoned in travel, hence the old feeling.
    2. The road next to the Lip Buster trail is to the left when facing uphill. When looking down the hill, the road is to the right. I know that no one gives a care, but when I reread my post, I was horrified by this ambiguity. Mercy me.

  • The End of an Era, Again?

No, I am not talking about capitalist United States (Although that will soon be over. Change, you know). I am talking about my college life as I know it. I would have just said "college life" and nothing more, but you never know if I will have a secret ambition and work towards a Law Degree/Masters Degree/Doctorite/Several Extra Years of School. This is no problem, as I already have lots of experience being a student. What is a problem, however, is figuring out how to get from here to destiny. What is the next step to take? Where will I go next? When the shores of the Arkansas River are distant and Tulsa is nowhere to be found, what will become of me? What will be of us (There's always that silly wife of mine to consider)?
There are so many things that Maria and I can do still right now at this time. We don't have too many obligations aside from providing for our immediate shelter and food and the finishing of our ORU careers. As soon as ORU is through, it will be just like it was five years ago. I felt it then too. I knew that my time in Buffalo was coming to at least a temporary end, and I would be moving on somewhere else. It's almost as if a chilly wind blows over my soul telling me that this era is near its death. The chill is not bitter for long because there will be the warmth of a new future. Just as I left behind cherished ones from earlier years, I will leave these that have become my familiars.
I still have all of 2009 to be here thanks to a pathetic Junior year, but this is going to be over faster than I can imagine. So where to now? I don't know. All I can say is that it will be all right. I'm ready.

  • The Not So Super Bowl

Great, I am not invited to anything. So help me, I will do something awesome today in spite of no invites. It's just kind of tough finding something fantastic to do on a day like this with no one. How sad. I'm sure this will shape out to be a fine day anyway. Cheers!

  • (M)Adam Librarian.

If you didn't know, my wife no longer works at the ORU library. Good for her. She served that place well and her time has passed. However, not all the Dispenza types are out of there. No, there is now another one working there. Me. It is I! Adam now works at the library. My feelings on the matter? Well, this seems both good and bad at the same time.

    The Good:
We need money. Dorm life is a little cheaper in the sense that you don't actually get to see the money vacuumed away from your wallet. Now that we are out, having money in the bank is far more necessary. How does one get money? By working, of course. However, it is not always ours to choice where we work (if this were the case, I would probably be somewhere else a long time ago).

    The Bad:
    *Screams* Yeah.

Well, at least I will beneficially fill up down time.
    Later.

  • The Wifey Made Gingerbread Cookies!

Anyone that does not have a wifey that likes to make delicious things in the kitchen is missing out! Oh my goodness, I should have married years ago! Earlier, she made me a whole pitcher of delicious iced tea that tastes just like Arizona brand. I couldn't believe it how great it tasted until I found myself having several glasses full. And now she is making delicious gingerbread cookies with a friend she invited over here. May the goodies never end.
I don't think that I could ever be a housewife. I like to get out do things outside the home, and I would rather not ever do the dishes. So you can imagine how much I appreciate this fine gal. I wish that everyone could find one like mine

  • Thank Goodness.

I just experienced my first Thanksgiving as a married man. It didn't feel weird to me.That's most likely due to the fact that I have not had a Thanksgiving at home for about four years. Actually, I rather enjoyed myself, as you will see in the upcoming video I will upload. I can't do that right now because Maria has the camera and that camera is holding all of our wonderful pictures.
Yep, Maria left again. She's out on a hiking trip with the rest of her backpacking class. Looks like a nice day out, I wouldn't be too worried. She'll be safe.
Oh, yes. I am writing this post from my new computer. What was wrong with my old one? Nothing. Er, not quite nothing, but I don't want to get into what was wrong with my old computer. I still use it, but the reason I got this new is so that I can have a computer that is set up and ready to use at any time. My laptop will forever onward be my portable notetaking machine among a few other things.
This new computer. 600+ gigs of space. 6+ gigs of ram. Oh my goodness. Somebody was out stimulating the economy this black friday
